JEHOVAH-SHALOM
First Mention: Judges 6:24
Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.
Meaning: The Lord Sends Peace
Benjamin Franklin – There never was a good war or a bad peace.
That is because the Lord is the creator and giver of all peace…
…and there are two types of peace listed in the Bible.
1. Peace with God – The Result of Salvation
A soul without God is a soul without peace.
Isaiah 57:19-21
v19. I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.
v20. But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
v21. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
Romans 3:23 tells us that we are all wicked without God.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
A. By Faith
Romans 5:1
v1. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
B. Through Christ
Colossians 1:20-21
v20. And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
v21. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled.
C. With God
Ephesians 2:13-18
v13. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
v14. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
v15. Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
v16. And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
v17. And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
v18. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
2. The Peace of God – The Reaction to Salvation
Colossians 3:15
v15. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
The Peace of God comes…
A. From Knowing God Personally.
If you desire to know the Peace of God, you must first desire to know the God of Peace.
I Corinthians 14:33
v33. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Romans 16:20
v20. And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
Philippians 4:7
v7. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 26:3
v3. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
B. From Knowing God’s Word Personally.
Psalms 119:165
v165. Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
Proverbs 3:1-4
v1. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
v2. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
v3. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
v4. So shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
C. From Knowing God’s Will Personally.
Isaiah 32:17
v17. And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.
Romans 8:6
v6. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Romans 14:19
v19. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
